The regular season wrapped up for the IPFW women’s basketball team Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Michigan as they fell to Oakland University 82-68. The game was tight all throughout the first half and IPFW had the Oakland lead cut to just five points at the break. Oakland came out in the second half with a fire though and just ran away with the game. IPFW kept the game as close as they could, but just couldn’t come away with a win.
Three Mastodons made their ways in the double figures Saturday afternoon. Stephanie Rosado, Chelsey Jackson, and Jordan Zuppe all combined for 54 of IPFW’s 68 points. Rosado knocked in 24 points, Jackson contributed 20, and Zuppe threw in 10. Jackson also had ten turnovers in the contest. Turnovers are something that Jackson has had an issue with all season, but hopes to snap out of it and take care of the ball better with the Summit League tournament just around the corner. The Mastodons did manage to go 7-7 from the free throw line. Free throws have always been on IPFW’s side this season, which can really help them out during the tournament.
Now, all IPFW can do is sit, wait, and hope for the best possible set-up in the Summit League tournament. Just like the men’s team, the women have never made an appearance in the NCAA tournament. IPFW has beaten every team in the Summit League with an exception of three teams (South Dakota St, North Dakota St, and Southern Utah). In a tournament, anything can happen. IPFW finished the regular season with a record of 13-16 overall, and 10-8 in the Summit League. In a season where anything seems to be possible, how great would it be to see both Men’s and Women’s basketball teams in the NCAA tournament?
