School is out and it’s time to get lazy, but not about fashion. But in all reality, you could get lazy about that, too. Summer is all about bright colors and keeping as cool as possible when it comes to clothes, but when it comes to accessories, hair and makeup, feel free to keep the routine light. Natural make up, some peachy or light pink blush and some mascara is all you really need. If you want to glam things up, try lining your eyes cat-eye style or something Barbie pink lipstick, which is apparently very in on the runway.
For some reason, bohemian has made another come back this year. Especially since spring, leather and suede in earthy colors still work for everyone as messenger bags and sandals. To accessorize your accessories, find bags and shoes with fringe or better yet, metal studs. Speaking of which, the military jacket has made such a big impression, designers have reinvented it for the summer. Instead of European style military pea coats, we will be seeing a sort of Roman warrior military look with metal studding and chain link pieces on everything from yours shoes to your headband. Headbands with big, bright colored bows on them are also making their way into every girl’s mane, which is being styled with messy side braids and in long, natural, beachy waves.
Bright, bold patterns are being worn on the bottom half of your outfit now. Yeah, it’s happening. You can even mix patterns to give a carefree vibe, but don’t go crazy – you want cute not clown. Speaking of bottoms, I hope yours is as tan as your upper half because short shorts and high-waisted hot pants are back. They can be worn on hot, days along with a loose tank or t-shirt from your high school years. Even better than hot pants are rompers, which made a comeback last summer, but few were worn out in public. A romper really is a beautiful thing, if it’s cute and simple. Think if it as a short dress, but the skirt is a pair of loose shorts instead. A coral toned romper is perfect for a day at the zoo with friends or you can opt for a sexy black version with metallic or floral detail for a hot summer date.
When it comes to tops, simple and loose are the only things you should keep in mind. Summer is hot, so layer after layer is definitely out. For a sexy and cool outfit, go with a pair of black shorts, whether Bermuda style or short shorts, and top it off with a black tank covered with a sheer, loose, pastel toned top. Add a sweet pair of stud pearl earring, a small black clutch and either a pair of intricately designed flats or some sexy wedges and you’re ready for anything.
While intricately designed flats are making a comeback, so are high heels. Yes, flats are amazing and comfortable and easy to wear with just about anything, but all you need is to find a pair of platforms or wedges that fit you, your style and most importantly the shape of your foot. Nothing too high though, because it really can have a bad effect on your back and posture in the future – wear what feels right and normal.
