This off-season, the IPFW women’s soccer team is doing everything except resting.
Currently, the coaches are preparing for the 2011 Prospect Camp as the Mastodons look to continue to bring in local talent. Just over a month after the men’s basketball team concludes their off-season camp, July 16, camp will open up at Hefner Soccer Complex for players from all around the United States as well as Canada.
Much like other off-season camps, players will be put in game-like experiences to see how they react to certain situations and how they play as a team. The camp is not only open to individual players, but entire teams as well.
These camps are extremely important in locating national talent as well, as the Mastodons currently have nine women on the roster from other countries.
One former Mastodon goalkeeper, Shannon Lynn, is currently still doing productive work on the field. On the bigger stage, Lynn has excelled to propel the Scottish national team to a 2-0 shutout win over England — an unexpected win for Scotland. The win was the first for Scotland over England in 34 years. Lynn was IPFW’s keeper from 2004-2006.
