“Entropy,” an art exhibition by Dan Swartz, will be on display Feb. 2 through April 22 at Jennifer Ford Art. Swartz will be on hand for an artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m Feb 2.

The exhibit is Swartz’s first in Fort Wayne since 2009 and features “unapologetic” contemporary art about death, destruction and the grieving process, Swartz said.

“I have a fairly complex relationship with death personally, so the work is kind of about that,” Swartz said. “Basically it’s talking about the breakdown of something versus the building up of something and then how you interact with that or cope with it.”

Swartz is the founder and curator of Wunderkammer Company, an art gallery opened in 2013. As curator, Swartz said he spends most of his time helping other artists display their work, so he hasn’t had many opportunities to display his own art recently.

However, running Wunderkammer has made Swartz a better artist and prepared him for his work on “Entropy,” Swartz said.

“Before I had as much experience working with the gallery, I think I glorified art a little more, whereas now I look at artists like everyone else,” Swartz said. “Some people make cars, some people make pieces of art, it’s just what people do. I think that less-romanticized point of view has made me a better artist in a way.”

Admission to “Entropy” is free. Jennifer Ford Art is open weekdays 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Fridays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
