Parkview SportONE Fieldhouse will be the battlegrounds for two Fort Wayne collegiate hockey clubs Friday night.

IPFW’s hockey club will faceoff for the first time in school history against Indiana Tech. The Dons (12-6-1) look to extend a three game winning streak against the Warriors (5-14).

“It will be an emotional battle and will dictate who is the top dog for college hockey in Fort Wayne,” Tyler Mason, a right wing for the Dons, said.

The Dons have four players in the double digits in goals scored this season. Mason leads the way with 14. Richard Sorensen and Derek Moss are not far behind by 13 goals each, and Grant Isenbarger has put it past the goalie 10 times this season.

Another challenge for the Mastodons will be the size and the Warriors offense said Mason.

The Warriors lead in scoring by Ryan Theisen with 12 goals, while Connor Barney has scored 10 goals on the season.  The Warriors are struggling to keep up with their opponents by allowing, 112 goals, almost double the goals they score themselves, 62 goals.

“We have to come out with high intensity and take care of our end,” said Mason.

IPFW, like the Warriors, have given up more goals than they have scored this season but the Dons have also won six games by two or more goals. Winning close games is another key quality the Dons have learned to do this season by winning three games decided by a goal.
