The Mastodons continue their season playing three game series, as they have every weekend since April 17. This schedule will continue until the end of the season on May 5.

To wrap up this year’s softball season, the Mastodons have stayed busy with three game series every weekend since April 7. This schedule will continue until the end of their season on May 5.

“We are excited to play our home opener,” said Coach Germaine Fairchild, in anticipation of the home game on April 13 against South Dakota State. “We have been on the road every weekend, except one, since February 9, and have played 37 straight games on the road.”

Currently, the Mastodons have 15 wins and 25 losses.

A handful of players have stood out with some awards and accomplishments recently, Coach Fairchild said. Senior Bailey Benefiel, a pitcher, has been named Summit League Pitcher of the Week twice this season. Junior Lauren Watson, a second baseman, was recently named one of IPFW’s top 50 students. Junior Lacey Wilzbacher, who plays shortstop, leads the team in batting average, doubles, and home runs.

“The hallmark of this team is its resilience. We don’t let bad calls, bad luck, poor conditions, or bad breaks get us down,” said Fairchild. “We have had several comeback wins so far this season, most as the visiting team, and the confidence we gained from those will help us tremendously in Summit League play.”

The Mastodon softball season will continue at a home game against IUPUI at 3 p.m. on April 18. That weekend, there will be two more home games against South Dakota State; the first on April 21 at 11 a.m. and the second on April 22 at 11 a.m.

For the last two weekends of the season, the Mastodons will travel to Fargo, North Dakota and then to Nebraska. In North Dakota, the Mastodons will play North Dakota State April 28 and 29. The Mastodons will play two home games against Omaha; the first on May 4 at 2 p.m. and the second on May 5 at 11 a.m.
