Three Rivers Music Theatre will present “Trick or Treat: A Halloween Cabaret” at 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29. The program will be a variety show featuring Halloween-themed performances by local actors as well as staff and students from Triple Threat Performing Arts Academy.

Gwen Baer, a student at Triple Threat and a performer in the show, said she is excited for the variety the event will bring to the Fort Wayne theater scene.

“We’re doing a bunch of different types of performances for this cabaret,” Baer said. “There’s duets, there’s trios, there’s solos and we’re even doing a Disney villain medley, so a few people in that will be doing solos … It’s kind of structured like a musical in a way.”

Baer will be performing a rendition of “Cell Block Tango” from the Broadway musical “Chicago,” along with her classmates and teachers from Triple Threat.

One of these teachers is Olivia Ross, an IPFW alumna who teaches dance classes. Ross said she was never exposed to musical theater as a child and is excited to give her students opportunities she never had.

“They are a great group of kids, they are hard workers and I know they’re coming up with something spectacular for this, so I’m excited to get to work with them more,” Ross said. “I think it will be exciting for us to see each other performing in a professional setting.”

Three Rivers Music Theatre is the first professional theater company in Fort Wayne, meaning actors and crew members are paid stipends for productions.

The company was started by Andy Planck, a veteran of Broadway and Chicago theater, in 2015. When it was created, Three Rivers filled a role that had been missing from Fort Wayne theater for a long time, Ross said.

“Andy brings the expectations of professional theater to Fort Wayne shows, and I think that is spectacular,” Ross said. “It’s something that I think a lot of people have been missing, and it makes for interesting and new art that this town doesn’t really see a lot of.”

Tickets for “Trick or Treat: A Halloween Cabaret” are $20 for reserved table seating, $15 for general admission and $10 for students. They can be purchased at trmhalloween.brownpapertickets.com.
