For this issue we travelled around campus on the first day of class and during freshman orientation to collect some fresh new faces around campus!

Communicator: How was your first day?

“It was a lot better than I thought it’d be. I thought I’d be kind of alone, awkward. But, every class that I went to professors were definitely spirited and I always ran into at least one or two other students that were in the same boat as me. So, it’s always interesting to meet new people….It’s not going to be an easy ride. I’m definitely going to have to put a lot more work than I did in high school. This feels a lot more comfortable, a lot more relaxed than the high school setting where even if you have finished your work you still have to stay in the class.”

Communicator: What are you most nervous about starting school?

[Far Left]: I have, like, 16 credit hours…and I have a job. I’ve always been, like, one of those smarter kids, like, in math programs, but this is college and I don’t know what to expect.

[Middle]: Classes, because I mean I’m taking pre-med and I’m expecting really hard courses and I’m taking 18 credit hours…everyone keeps saying that’s a lot and I’m really nervous.

Communicator: So you’re waiting on your girlfriend? How’d you guys meet?

“We met actually in high school, um, she, like, turned me down a couple times before we actually started dating, but then after high school we graduated and everything we went to different high schools … We met up with I was living in South Bend and she was going to Saint Mary’s and we, uh, started talking again on Facebook and we got back together and we hit it off and we’ve been together a couple of years now. … It’s been about a year and a half since we’ve been together, but we’ve actually known each other since we were sophomores in high school.

Communicator: What’s it like dating someone you’ve know that long?

“It’s actually really nice because, like, we, like, click on a whole different level, actually know exactly what we’re thinking at all times pretty much. Its kind freaky, but it’s pretty cool.

Communicator: What are you most nervous about starting school?

“Most nervous about? Right now is just trying to meet people, make friends, pretty much.”

Communicator: What are you most excited about?

“Most excited? Um, basically just being able to be on my own almost, pretty much, other than living at home and whatnot, so.”

Communicator: How was your first day?

“Good. Kind of overwhelmed, but I think once I get settled I’ll be fine.”
Communicator: What surprised you most about your first day

“Um, *long pause* I don’t know.”
