France Begins Military Action Against ISIS

On Friday, September 19, France launched an airstrike on an ISIS logistics depot, destroying it. Earlier in the week, reconnaissance had flown over parts of Iraq. This airstrike represents the first public display of military support against ISIS by a foreign country, despite the growing coalition of nations that have promised to act. By comparison, the United States has launched over 170 airstrikes against ISIS since early August. Although it is politically a good sign for the campaign against ISIS, it is a limited one. French president Francois Hollande has indicated that France will only conduct airstrikes and only within certain areas, excluding Syria where ISIS has captured some territory. US generals hope this action will encourage others to follow suit.
