Fantasticon, a new comic convention coming to Fort Wayne, will be held 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 29 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 30 at The Grand Wayne Center.

The Fort Wayne event will be the 10th Fantasticon which has been hosted in five different cities among three different states: Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

“We’ve noticed that Fort Wayne doesn’t have a comic con,” said Joe Nieborte, a representative from Fantasticon.  “And we are hoping to fill that void and give them their own show and something to be proud of.”

Fantasticon aims to appeal to a diverse crowd, he said. It offers something for those interested in science fiction, anime, cosplay, and more.

Since Fantasticon will be in town during Halloween, Nieborte said, there will be a large costume contest during the event. The winner will receive $500 cash.

“At any of our shows we invite people to dress up and this being Halloween weekend we hope it will be really big,” Nieborte said.

The convention will include panel discussions including a Q-and-A session with Marvel and DC comic book artists Mike Grell (“Green Arrow”), Joe Rubinstein (“Wolverine”) and Arvell Jones (“Misty Knight”).

Another panel will feature Casey Orr from GWAR and Eerie Von from Danzig speaking about their love for music and art, moderated by KISS magazine artist Brian Steward.

On Sunday, filmmakers John Russo (“Night of the Living Dead”) and Scott Spiegel (“Evil Dead 2”) will offer advice for individuals interested in movie-making.

The final panel will be held by Daniel Phillips, a makeup artist who worked on “The Hobbit” trilogy, about transforming someone into a movie monster.

Nearly 75 vendors are expected at the event.

Replicas of the Batmobile and Batcycle from the 1960s“Batman” TV series will also be featured at the event.
