New Top 50 Award To Recognize IPFW Students

Written by: Bernadette BeckerFebruary 17, 2016

IPFW has a new award for students. It is intended to highlight the successes of the top 50 IPFW students in academics, service and on campus involvement.

Chief of Staff Kimberly Wagner brought the idea to Chancellor Vicky Carwein and then James Velez, coordinator for student organizations, activities and intramural sports, was brought on to help.

“I believe students are going above and beyond by performing academically at a higher level, giving back to their community at a stronger level and engaging at the university in a more meaningful level,” Velez said.

A selection committee comprised of faculty, staff, administrators and community members will help decide the award’s recipients, according to Velez. He also mentioned that employers are motivated to look for students with awards of this kind on their resume.

“We hope to encourage our students every day to strive for greatness,” Velez said.

Students must be juniors, seniors or graduate students with at least a minimum of 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the award, according to the IPFW website.

The deadline for nominations is March 11.
Nominated students must accept their nomination, fill out the application form, and provide a letter of recommendation by March 28.
