Fort Wayne Newspapers hosted its first SHE Expo three years ago, and the event has continued to gain popularity ever since.

The event will feature over 100 interactive vendor booths both local and national, including retail, education, health and beauty.

The event strives to bring together different parts of the community for women to experience, said Kathy Boles, the event manager.

After visiting several similar events put on by newspapers around the nation, Boles and other staff members of Fort Wayne Newspapers found the SHE Expo was something missing from their market and wanted to produce one in Fort Wayne.

This year’s SHE Expo is Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

General admission tickets are $7, and VIP tickets to meet and greet the guest speaker are $40 and can be purchased at www1.ticketmaster.com/she-expo-fort-wayne-indiana-10-21-2017/event/050052F5DD8A8DAA.

Boles said she estimates at least 2,500 attendees this year, filling two of the coliseum’s expo centers.

“Women are the driving force behind purchases,” Boles said. “We want to get women in front of local businesses they never knew were here and give them new experiences.”

Women can also use the SHE Expo as a networking opportunity with access to numerous businesses made available.

However, the event is not just about the retail takeaway; it is about empowering women, Boles said.

“It is more about giving women the tools they need to do the things that they want to do,” she said.

In addition to shopping, attendees will be provided learning opportunities, food sampling, healthy living information, home improvements tips and giveaways, and more.

While the event primarily attracts women, men are welcome to attend, as there is national talent to be enjoyed by everyone.

Last year, the event featured HGTV’s “Property Brothers”. This year’s headliner is nationally known Ty Pennington, host of “Extreme Home Makeover” and “American Diner Revival” and featured on “Trading Spaces.”

Midway through the day, Pennington will give a short presentation on the main stage, followed by a 30-40 minute Q and A session. During this time, a $25,000 dream remodel giveaway from the SHE Expo’s presenting sponsor, Windows, Door & More, will be awarded.

Fort Wayne Newspapers wants to provide women with an interactive, engaging and possibly life-changing time, Boles said.
