Fort Wayne’s third annual Weather the Fort returns to Freimann Square Feb. 17.

“What better way to celebrate winter than to fully embrace all she has to offer,” according to the event website.

The event was created in 2016 by six young professionals from Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana.

“Weather the Fort was started with the belief that Fort Wayne, a city with so many great festivals, needed an exciting festival in the wintertime,” said John Felts, the public outreach coordinator for the city of Fort Wayne.

Located downtown Fort Wayne, the outdoor event features live music and entertainment, interactive art, food and drinks.

It is free to attend and open to guests 21 and older with a valid form of I.D. This is made possible by the event sponsors: Parkview Health, Three Rivers Credit Union, WANE TV, Downtown Improvement District, and Majic 95.1.

“Our committee wanted to offer a unique, fun winter festival experience for young professionals and adults,” Felts said.

Over 2,500 attendees came to Weather the Fort last year, and 3,000 attendees are anticipated for 2018, Felts said.

Doors to the event open at 4 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. Upon entry, attendees will receive a wristband to grant them access to the event.

Free parking will also be available at the Barret McNagny parking lot as well as free weekend street parking locations. For a parking map, visit weatherthefort.com/faq.

Local bands will be performing throughout the event, including Will Curtain (4-5:30 p.m.), James and the Drifters (5:30-7:30 p.m.) and Good Night Gracie (8-10:30 p.m.).

A fire dancing show by Pyroscope Entertainment will run from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Throughout the event, Thomas J. Leffers will do a live painting, the Fort Wayne Curling Club will have curling demonstrations and live ice carving will take place.

Multiple food options will be available for purchase including, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Food will be provided by the WOW Factor and Park Place on Main, desserts from Hetty Arts Pastry and adult drinks from AALCO.

Tickets will be used to reduce the lines for alcoholic beverages, but food vendors will be using their preferred payment method. Proceeds from food and beverage sales will support Fort Wayne Turners, a local non‐profit dedicated to encouraging people of all ages to stay active.

As the name implies, Weather the Fort will take place snow or shine unless in the case of a severe weather emergency.

Appropriate dress is recommended as the event does take place outdoors.
